(IFI), are industry leading structural steel fabricators committed to building better communities. We do this through excellence, quality, and value in our structural solutions, continuous growth and opportunity for our employees, and mutually beneficial relationships with all our partners.  We want our structures to connect people, provide safe places for business and pleasure, and give life to the ideas of the people who design them and who use them.

LeJeune Steel delivers projects in a wide variety of industries including healthcare, education, sports stadiums, commercial, industrial, warehousing, infrastructure and DOT and rail bridges across the United States and Canada.  Our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement is reflected in our use of state-of-the-art technology, software, and equipment in both our office and shops.  LeJeune Steel is part of the APi Group of companies and is proud to be a privately held, employee owned business.

Overview/Description:

The primary goal of the Pre-Construction team is to capture new projects which align with LeJeune Steel’s business plan.  The Estimators are the “engine” of the Pre-Construction team in that they are responsible to process large amounts of data and turn that data into usable information for creating a proposal to our customers.  The estimators are the primary individuals responsible for understanding the scope of a project and its requirements for both LeJeune resources and for outside suppliers and subcontractors.  Estimators quantify the amount of materials, shop labor and outside resources required to fabricate and deliver a project.  They must also identify opportunities for efficiency in fabrication or in coordination with suppliers and subcontractors that would give LeJeune Steel an edge over competitors.

Customer interaction is important during the proposal process and during scope reviews.  The estimator may need to contact the customer to clarify scope or resolve questions when preparing the proposal.  As the individual at LeJeune Steel who knows the most about a project, Estimators will participate in both internal and external scope reviews as needed. This interaction is typically done via phone or email; however, when appropriate, travel and face to face meetings may be required.

Estimators also interact regularly with suppliers and subcontractors as they collect, review, and verify suppliers’ and subcontractors’ quotes to develop a complete project scope.  Coordination with steel erectors is a common occurrence as many projects require a significant amount of coordination regarding schedule, site logistics, or shop assemblies.  This interaction is typically done via phone or email however when appropriate face to face meetings may be required.

Estimators interact with other departments at LeJeune Steel on a regular basis as a resource when preparing proposals.  After award of a project to LeJeune, a critical interaction occurs when the Estimator leads an internal Kick-Off Meeting, to coordinate the hand off of the project from the Pre-Construction Team to the Project Management Team.  During this meeting, the Estimator must clearly communicate the pertinent details of the project, including but not limited to the project team roster (identify the customer, detailer, suppliers, subcontractors, etc.), project schedule, fabrication plan/details, and project opportunities/risks.  The estimator may continue to be involved throughout the life of the project by assisting the Project Manager with estimating costs for design changes received after the kick-off.

In summary, the Pre-Construction Team Estimator is a unique and vital part of the success of LeJeune Steel. Estimators enjoy one of the few roles within the company with an opportunity for interaction with our customers, suppliers/subcontractors, and almost every department within LeJeune Steel, critically influencing the success of the company.
