Industrial Engineering analyzes, understands, summarizes, makes recommendations for, and participates in process capability and capacity so that decisions can be made in a timely manner to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

They focus on how to get the work done most efficiently, balancing many factors—such as time, number of workers needed, available technology, actions workers need to take, achieving the end product with no errors, workers' safety, environmental concerns, and cost.

They find ways to reduce waste and improve performance by first studying product requirements carefully.  Then use mathematical methods and models to design manufacturing and information systems to meet those requirements most efficiently.

Industrial engineers apply their skills to many different situations from manufacturing to business administration:

  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and other information to understand methods and activities in manufacturing and services
  • Figure out how to manufacture parts or products, or deliver services, with maximum efficiency
  • Develop management control systems to make financial planning and cost analysis more efficient
  • Support quality control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs
  • Design control systems to coordinate activities and production planning to ensure that products meet quality standards
  • Assesses the impact of the changes that occur to cost, schedule, resources, and delivery
  • Participates in discussions representing Production Operations to support schedule commitments or statement of work impacts

Required Job Skills or Experience:

  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, and production equipment
  • Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Root Cause & Corrective Action techniques
  • Capacity and staffing analysis
  • Interpersonal and communication skills including presentations (This position will present to multiple levels of management.)
  • Read and comprehend drawings and specifications
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Project
  • Experience in Aerospace or composites manufacturing is preferred

Education and/or Experience:

  • Industrial Engineering Level 1
    • Zero years experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering Level 2
    • 1 to 3 years relevant experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience

This position will not have any direct reports, but has a potential career path to management.

This position will report to the Site Manager of Industrial Engineering and Production Control.
